Abstract
The treatment of the fruit of Hovenia dulcis with the cellulase produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens DL-3 for the extraction of reducing sugars increased the release of sugars and decreased the extraction temperature and time. The production of the reducing sugars with the treatment of cellulase was 1.43 times higher than that without cellulase. The cellulase produced by B. amyloliquefaciens DL-3 had three different types of cellulosic activities, which seemed to result in the enhanced extraction of reducing sugars. These reducing sugars were used as the substrate for the sequential production of ethanol and acetic acid. The production of ethanol by Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCCM 11293 from 36.1 g/L reducing sugars was 18.0 g/L for 72 h and the sequential production of acetic acid by Acetobacter pasteurianus KCCM 40117 from 18.0 g/L ethanol was 18.4 g/L for 72 h. The concentration of ampelopsin in the fermentation broth was maintained throughout the sequential productions of ethanol and acetic acid.
