Our research aimed to address a long-standing challenge in hearing loss therapy: how to generate functional cochlear hair cells in the lab. These cells are responsible for converting sound vibrations into electrical signals that the brain can interpret. In humans, once these cells are damaged-due to aging, noise, or drugs-they do not regenerate.
