유사분열 (mitosis)은 세포분열의 정교한 과정 중 하나로, centrosome은 유사분열 기간 동안 bipolar spindle을 형성하여 염색체의 성공적인 분리(chromosome segregation)를 보장합니다. 손상된 DNA가 후손 세포에 전달되는 것을 막고자 DNA damage response (DDR)는 유사분열 기간 동안 spindle의 multipolarity를 동반한 세포 사멸(mitotic catastrophe)을 유도하게 되는데 그 구체적인 mechanism은 아직 명확하지 않습니다.
