Our paper reports a human Gut-Brain-Vascular microphysiological platform that recreates bidirectional gut and brain communication through a perfused vascular channel. Using this platform, we demonstrate that gut-originating microbial/toxic and inflammatory cues can traverse vascular and barrier interfaces to impact brain-relevant endpoints, while brain-side neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative conditions can, in turn, damage vascular integrity and gut barrier function.
