미국 시애틀에 있는 랩에서 연구 학자를 모집하고 있습니다. 포닥자리인데 어떻게 보시는지요? 6

안녕하세요. 미국에서 방문학자로 근무하고 있는 한국의 한 교수입니다. 
랩에서 포닥을 구하고 있는데 조건을 한번 보시고 이것이 어느정도 조건인지 한번 판단해주실 수 있는 분 계신지요?
이 정도면 무난한 것인지?  아니면 개인적으로는 지원자가 있을지 저는 좀 의문이 들기도 합니다. 
현재 외국인 포닥 2명이 비슷한 조건으로 일을 하고 있다고 합니다.

일단 오해를 살수있으니 원문 그대로 옮겨보겠습니다.
  • Term of appointment: This full-time, 12-month position has immediate availability for an initial one-year appointment. 
  • The position will be renewable annually contingent on performance and available funding.
  • The base salary range for this position will be $5,705 per month ($68,460 annually)
  • 가족인원에 따라 다르지만 세금이 한 4500에서 7200불정도 나올 수 있을 것 임. (정확하지 않음)
  • 대학에 포닥 노조가 생겨서 의료보험비나 비자비용 같은 것은 대학부담으로 나오게 협상한 것 같음. 휴가가 연 21일정도인데 법적으로 일하는 시간은 주40시간이 맥시멈임. 그런데 금요일 저녁에도 보면 다들 일하고 있음. 
  • 일단 PI 가 미국인이고 메디컬 닥터출신이라 펀딩은 괜찮은 것 같음. 굉장히 목표지향적이라 연구를 많이 하는 곳 임. 
  • 언어가 안 되도 계속 인커리지 하고 뭔가 부족한 것 같으면 매주 만나서 얘기하고 그런 스타일. 뭐든 즉각즉각 답변해주는 스타일임.  
  • 휴가내는것 크게 관여하지 않는 스타일. 하지만 포닥들은 기한내에 연구하는거 압박이 꽤 있을 것으로 생각 됨. 
  • 저는 한국에서 온 교수인데 연구년 연장을 하려면 일정 급여가 필요해서 문의한 적이 있는데 (처음 만났을 때) 저를 계속 테스트 함. 가령 제 경험이 많지 않은 분야에 대해서 마스터 하라고 함 (R 이나 NGS 데이터 분석 등) writing 하는 곳 (포닥있는 자리) 에 제자리를 만들어 주었는데 최근 데이터가 나오고 있고 2주안에 논문 다 완성할 수 있냐고 한적도 있음. 노력은 했고 거의 썼는데 온지 6개월만에 논문이 나온다며 칭찬을 함. 계속 저 아래 조건에 부합한 사람인지 본인이 판단하고 싶어하는 것이 느껴짐. 처음엔 어떤 얘기를 들으면 그게 무슨 뜻인지 의아 했었는데 이번에 우연히 저 공고글을 보니 이해가 되었음.

어쨌거나 이런 상황에 이 자리에 지원해서 1년 더 있는 것이 나은지.. 고민이 큽니다. (가족이 1년 더 있고 싶어하기도 함.)
어디나 급여를 받으려면 다 이런 비슷한 상황일 듯도 하여 급여는 깔끔히 포기하는게 나을지요? (다른 주에 계신 분이 돈 받는거 생각하지도 말라고 하심 ㅎㅎ)

  • General Duties:

    ·        Bioinformatic analysis of display libraries (generally phage display) for the rabbit and human immune response to Treponema pallidum and to associated vaccine candidates

    ·        Design, optimization, and automation of phage display and antigen profiling immune experiments, including immunoprecipitation and sequencing library generation

    ·        Bioinformatic and phylogenetic analysis of Treponema pallidum genomes and full-length TprK haplotypes

    ·        Development of next-generation sequencing analysis pipelines for taxonomical analysis and pathogen genome visualization.

    ·        Creation and optimization of next-generation sequencing libraries for pathogen genomics. Genome finishing of pathogens, including optimization of high-throughput methods.

    ·        Supervise and analyze quantitative pathogen load determination using RT-qPCR, qPCR, ddPCR, including optimization of new assays

    ·        Supervise performance of molecular procedures including but not limited to real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, PCR product detection DNA sequencing and next generation sequencing;

    ·        Drafting of manuscripts for open-access publication

    ·        Perform work accurately, precisely and meet test completion deadlines;

    ·        Maintain complete, accurate, legible, secure records.  Thoroughly document any modifications using appropriate document and version control.

    ·        Analyze experimental data and report to the Director; determine what modifications and follow-up experiments are necessary to generate relevant data;

    ·        Identify long and short-term goals; initiate research program/projects;

    ·        Contribute technical knowledge when initiating new projects to determining feasibility of goals and objectives of the study;

    ·        Contribute data and analyses for grant submissions;

    ·        Perform preliminary experiments for assay development;

    ·        Work with R, python, Geneious, Excel, and bash command line;

    ·        Collaborate with research team to create opportunities and ancillary research projects to enhance technical assay methodology or content through the expansion of existing or development of new projects;

    ·        Review the scientific process of each research project, analyze issues, understand scientific procedures and statistical analysis; report data using graphs and charts;

    ·        Provide ongoing feedback; identify development opportunities and actively solicit input on work methods;

    ·        Perform other duties as required.

  • Qualifications

    Education requirement, minimum: PhD in pathogen genomics, molecular biology, microbiology/virology/immunology, bioinformatics or foreign equivalent

    Additional Requirements:

    ·        At least three years of combined experience in genomics and microbiology/virology/immunology

    ·        Prior first-author publications

    ·        Prior coding experience with R, python, and/or UNIX.

    ·        Able to program/code data visualization and figure generation.

    ·        Previous experience with next-generation sequencing analysis and genomics

    ·        Strong written and communication skills;

    ·        Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.

    Desired:

    ·        Proficient at R, python, and/or bash.

    ·        Contribute to and maintain github repositories

    ·        Data analysis skills beyond basic statistical knowledge.
