(Cochlea)
• ABR, DPOAE
(Brain)
• Confocal microscopy
◈ From Cochlea to Cortex
Hearing loss is a brain disorder as much as a sensory one. Comparable cochlear damage yields widely divergent clinical outcomes, and the difference lies centrally — in circuit reorganization, cognitive load, and long-term dementia risk. The mechanisms linking peripheral injury to central dysfunction remain largely undefined.
We are recruiting graduate students to work on that link. The project treats cochlea and brain as one system: peripheral and central measures taken in the same animal, and read against each other.

◈ Research Directions
- Circuit reorganization along the central auditory pathway (inferior colliculus, medial geniculate body, auditory cortex) after hearing loss
- Consequences beyond the auditory pathway — hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and cognitive outcome
- Cochlear damage mapped onto central change and behavioral phenotype: the cochlea–brain axis
- Spatiotemporal dynamics of neuroinflammation and glial response Central circuits as a therapeutic target
Peripheral — ABR and DPOAE; noise- and drug-induced hearing loss models; cochlear whole-mount and cryosection analysis of hair cells and synapses
Central — brain sectioning and region-specific immunohistochemistry; confocal imaging and quantification of neurons and glia; Western blot, qPCR, ELISA
◈ Candidates
-We are looking for someone with a serious interest in neuroscience, willing to approach it through the auditory system.
- Backgrounds in neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, veterinary medicine, or life sciences are all suitable.
